Description

The ultimate recipe for soft and gooey cinnamon rolls topped with creamy frosting.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 to 4 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 12 tablespoons milk

Instructions

  1. Activate the Yeast: In a large bowl, combine warm milk and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes foamy.
  2. Make the Dough: Add sugar, melted butter, eggs, and salt. Gradually mix in flour until a soft dough forms. Knead for about 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic. The dough should feel slightly tacky but not sticky. Place it in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  3. Prepare the Filling: Mix brown sugar and cinnamon in a bowl. Roll the risen dough into a large rectangle, about 1/4-inch thick. Spread softened butter evenly across the surface, then generously sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture over it.
  4. Roll and Slice: Roll the dough tightly from the long side to form a log. Slice into 12 even rolls using a sharp knife or unflavored dental floss for clean cuts. Place the rolls in a greased baking dish, cover, and let them rise again for 30–45 minutes.
  5. Bake: Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 20–25 minutes until lightly golden on top. The centers should be soft but fully cooked.
  6. Frost While Warm: Beat together cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk until smooth and creamy. Spread generously over warm rolls so the frosting melts into every swirl.
