Description
A warm and aromatic cup of chai made with spices, tea, and milk.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups water
- 1 teaspoon chai masala powder
- 1 inch piece of ginger (peeled and crushed)
- 2 teaspoons loose black tea leaves (chai patti) (or 2 tea bags)
- ½ cup whole milk (full-fat milk)
- 15–20 fresh mint leaves (rinsed)
- 2 tablespoons powdered jaggery
Instructions
- Combine water, chai masala powder, and ginger in a saucepan.
- Bring the mixture to a boil on medium-high heat.
- Reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for 3-4 minutes.
- Add tea leaves and milk and simmer for 2 more minutes.
- Add mint leaves and cook for 30 seconds. Do not overcook after adding the mint leaves otherwise the tea will turn bitter.
- Strain the tea in a jug and stir in jaggery.
- Pour the tea into serving cups and serve hot.
- You can also strain the tea directly in serving cups and add jaggery into the cups themselves.
Notes
- Adjust jaggery to taste based on sweetness preference.
- For a stronger flavor, let the tea steep longer before straining.
