Description

This rich chocolate cake is perfect for any occasion and pairs beautifully with chocolate fudge frosting.


Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup (65g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 cups (400g) granulated sugar
  • 1 and 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 and 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup (240ml) whole milk
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup (240ml) boiling water
  • 1 cup (170g) semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • Chocolate Fudge Frosting (prepared separately)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract. Beat on medium speed until well combined.
  4. Slowly add the boiling water, mixing until the batter is smooth. Fold in the chocolate chips.
  5. Divide batter evenly between prepared pans and bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Let cakes cool completely before frosting with chocolate fudge frosting.
